Student Stewards

What are some talents that you have?

Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not human masters.”

The vision of Northwest Christian Academy is to train up Christian thinkers, communicators, and servant-leaders. The Student Leadership Institute (SLi) at NCA exists to fulfill this vision by preparing young men and women to engage culture through the development of a Biblical worldview and the nurturing of leadership traits.

The focus for this week is on stewardship. A steward is someone who can effectively manage his or her resources. Although there are many resources stewards can manage, this lesson is mainly focusing on talents. A person’s talent is a gift that God has given him or her. A person can have multiple talents that range from leadership to singing to drawing. For stewards to manage their talents, they should use them efficiently and work to the best of their abilities.

To start, stewards can manage their gifts by effectively using them. This means that they are improving them and using them to help others. One way to enhance them is to practice. When stewards dedicate their time and effort to practicing their gifts, it allows them to build on them so that they can become greater. For example, if a steward’s talent is in mathematics, he or she should set time to practice problems, such as multiplication or division questions. Another way for stewards to use their gifts is to share them with others. When stewards share the products of their gifts, it can help cheer people up when they are feeling down. Additionally, stewards can receive feedback on how to improve their talents. If a steward’s talent is in assembling furniture, for instance, he or she could put some together for people and get their input.

Lastly, stewards should work their hardest when they are using their talents. Stewards should put in all their effort to ensure that whatever they are working on turns out its best. An example of this is if stewards’ talent is in acting. If they do not put effort into their performance, it will show in the final product. Their acting may not be as good because they did not put enough care into it. When stewards work hard using their talents, they also must have determination. If stewards are not determined to magnify their talents, they may stop trying if it became too difficult.

To summarize, stewards are people who manage their resources, including their talents. One way they do this is through using them effectively. Stewards use their talents effectively by practicing them to improve and sharing them with others. Another way stewards manage their talents is by working hard. When they are determined and persistent to enhance their talents, they can use them to the best of their abilities. My challenge is to try to find time to practice your talents. This way, you can become better at it, and it is not going to waste.

Some discussion questions are, “How can you use your talents to help others?”, and “What are some other ways you can enhance your talents?”

Dear God, thank you for giving each of us our abilities and talents. With these gifts, I ask that you help us to be courageous enough to use them. You gave us our gifts, and we have the power to use them. So, I ask that you allow us not to be too afraid of sharing them with the world. I also ask that you lead us down the right path for our gifts. Instead of bringing others down, we should use our gifts to uplift people. Lastly, I pray that we use our gifts to strengthen your kingdom, to bring people closer to you. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
