Building a Unified Culture

Beginning February 7th at 6:30pm I will be starting a new 8-part series entitled Building a Unified Culture: A Blueprint for Building a Kingdom School in a Multicultural Context. I know this title may sound a bit “heady” or overtly intellectual, but in simple terms, I wish to answer this one question: How can Northwest Christian Academy effectively fulfill its stated mission and realize its vision? Our mission is to assist the local church in its mandate to make disciples. We believe we will accomplish this by producing Christian thinkers, communicators, and servant-leaders.

One of the main reasons for this series is to clear up confusion about the purpose of our school by stating in clear terms what we are here to do. I also aim to clarify the vision I am certain the Lord has given me to see our community transformed.  I wish to tackle some tough topics in the process including race relations, the state of the church, and that of Christian education in America and more specifically in our own backyard of South Florida, all from a Biblical worldview, of course.

Admittedly, this is not a series for the faint-hearted, but it is one for those who want to be a part of the transformative process of our community. I welcome all skeptics. Those who think that I may be hypocritical in addressing these topics given our present circumstances, I will be more than happy to debate publicly with you over anything that you may disagree with.

At the end of the day, I simply wish to address the issues head on that many are afraid to. I am ready to move forward and serve the Lord without reservation rather than pretend to serve the Lord behind a shroud of fear. There is an old saying, “Those who don’t know the past are doomed to repeat it.” I fear our community may be perpetuating some of these old habits of the past that have produced this post-Christian generation. I am convinced that the issues plaguing our community is not a lack of awareness of Jesus Christ as Savior, but rather one of Lordship. In other words, our community needs a clear example of how to move from being saved to becoming world-changers. I have spent majority of my career in Christian education analyzing the causes of this gap and exploring solutions for closing this gap. Many of the programs we have implemented over the years is a manifestation of this desire to close this gap. It is time for us to take the next big leap forward.

I believe in world change. It would be hypocritical of me to say that I believe in change and not be willing to be a change agent myself while enduring the consequences that come along with walking down this path. While I have been weary on the path, I have not shied away from the challenge. Although I have wanted to get off the path, I have been encouraged by those who believe that our community can change if we all embrace the same mind to stay on the path. I am continually reminded, through the examples in God’s word and those cloud of witnesses who have come before me that world-changers don’t run away from problems in their community; they have a big dream to see a community under the Lordship of Christ. They engage problems with the confidence of the Lord, their impact is made in the lives of those whom they serve, all in an effort to see lives changed for the glory of God.

If you want to be a part of creating something special that could potentially set this community on fire for the Lord, I encourage you to be there during this series.

PASS parents, because I believe this series is vitally important, I am offering 3 points per class. I look forward to seeing you there.
